This collage was created during lockdown. I wanted to make art that was pretty and made me happy. I got the idea from my cat sitting in the garden. Created using books, this collage is hand cut and glued onto wood canvas. It is covered in layers of protective coating.

Melissa Moffat is a fine art collagist. When using fashion publications, she draws the viewer in with images of luxury, intricate patterns, beautiful textures and the brilliance of precious metals and stones. When comic books are her choice if medium, iconic images from characters' costumes are broken down and rebuilt in a new, modern and abstract form. In the reconstruction process, she use the principals of composition to create the new abstract image. Ultimately, the goal of her work is to take existing images and reuse as well as re-appropriate them in a way that gives the viewer a cornucopia of archival pictures that are meant to be examined in a whole new way. Moffat essentially breathes new life into magazine and comic editorials by removing them from the spine of the book and plastering them onto the wall.
