This GJ Gillespie abstract was inspired by mid-century abstract expressionist paintings from the New York School. The artists he admire tap unconscious feelings of longing for existential meaning that emerge from cultural icons. In his view abstraction should be more than pleasing design. Instead, art should evoke connotations that permit the viewer to experience a sense of wonder, awe and new perspectives of being. The composition is deeply layered with collaged material that give the piece an artifact quality. The forms and position of lines suggest movement. "I Go to Pieces" has been chosen for publication in a literary and art journal in 2022. Title is after a 1987 song by British pop band Peter and Gordon.
