About The Artwork

Overdose (27 Club) - 2020 collage giclée print 100 x 80 cm, edition of 27 The idea for this work came from being fascinated by the 60s & 70s music scene and the 80s art scene. In particular Jimi Hendrix and Jean Michel Basquiat who both are Sagittarius like myself. When I started researching them more, I found out they both died at age 27 of a drug overdose. Although there is a lot of controversy and mystery behind the deaths of superstars due overdose... I started with cutting out images from old magazines and scanning them into my computer and creating a collage into these “hypnosis” eye shapes. I wanted to create an artwork that shows you my vision on the stages of an overdose and gives you a feeling of being under the influence yourself. The left eye represents a state of euphoria with extreme highs and extreme lows. The right eye represent the pressure, addiction and anxiety. A darker toxic state that eventually leads to an overdose. There is a lot more information in the work, that I will leave to the viewers imagination. Fun fact: I created this work when I was 27.
