About The Artwork
She was a beautiful young Miwok maiden in love with an Indian prince. When he abandoned her, she walked to the top of the mountain nearby and died of heartbreak. As she sobbed, the mountain heard her intense sorrow and took pity. When she finally died, the mountain was so moved it changed its form, taking on the supine shape of her body and becoming the Sleeping Lady, our dear Mt. Tamalpais. All works from the 'Dissecting Gravity' series are created on high quality paper mounted wood panels artfully painted & splashed with pure watercolors. The rich texture of the trees and other images are created with collaged pieces of litter, recycled junk mail and old magazines, as a gentle reminder that if we do not stop trashing the planet, trees will not grow from our garbage in the future. The overall result is an aesthetically alluring composition with a hidden message about protecting our forests. The entire piece is finished with two coats of archival satin varnish, creating a contemporary but natural look. The edges are natural wood. No framing required.
