About Don Griffin Born in Washington, DC in 1941 and living in Baltimore, Maryland currently. Categorically, I'm an African American Abstract Expressionist Artist actively creating Paintings, Collages & Assemblages. My work is developed from the collage tradition which represents a state of mind for me. Cutting and pasting offers an exploration of interest which I like when incorporating painting techniques. I'm compelled to examine the wholeness of art, as I must interact with making my own creative statements, mostly through "series". I do experience influences from everything. Some creations, with my own "spin" applied, are indirect collaborations with other artists I admire. Other times I engage in mixed media work utilizing various scales to create a change of approach. The difficulty doesn't decrease with the reduced scale necessarily, and many times I find that small equals large. In the end, a new work is created that makes me happy, and that I also want share.
