ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Renaissance Italian sculptor Bernini inspired this image of a sculpture as I translate his theme of the hands gripping the flesh into modern thought and circumstances. The impotent agony people may feel towards today's anonymously imposed confines and structures are walls that I want to open onto a lovely halo of bright light. My message to break down walls in digital art speaks most urgently to youth who have known no other way of being and living, even if in my traditional art mediums the message would be closer to the heart. This work comes in digital format. As an 'artist original', it is available at the online gallery in a limited edition of 6 that can be ordered in canvas. A certificate of authenticity will be made available if you contact me via this webpage. It can also be ordered as an 'open edition' giclee print on paper on this site. For an NFT version, please consider contacting webpage.

In Rome, Italy, I was drawing and painting since childhood. When I arrived in New York City with $50 in my pocket, I called a few advertising agencies and got my first job working in the Empire State building. I became a sought-after commercial artist working with Geoffrey Hayes, art director of well-known advertising stints such as his famed Absolute Vodka campaign. My collages of New York City in surrealistic postcards were published and sold by the Metropolitan museum in 1979. I translated my love for the Old Masters into watercolor portraits of their works. On the other hand, my love for surrealism expresses my present stage of introspection in digital works of Surrealistic and Abstract-Expressionistic art. I was photographer Francesca Woodman's boyfriend at the time of her death and I introduce my photo of her as I fused it with my work.
