ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This abstract black and white composition features an intricate overlay of a navigational compass and an all-seeing eye, suggesting guidance, surveillance, and mystical insight. The splattered and chaotic edges around the precise geometric shapes create a dynamic tension, portraying a complex interplay between direction and perception. "Eye of the Compass" by Sebastian Scherf. This picture is based on a hand-drawing I made. June 2022 - April 2023

I am Sebastian Scherf, a freelance artist from Graz, Austria. My journey began at the age of nine when I first started working with Photoshop. From this early age, I have cultivated both a logical and creative mindset that has shaped my long-term interests in art and technology. I have been working in the field of artificial intelligence for over a decade, bridging the gap between technical logic and creative expression. I graduated from the Klusemann School in a creative branch focused on media and communication. There, I was educated in an environment that placed equal emphasis on physical experience and traditional subjects such as mathematics and history. This versatile education significantly contributed to forming my artistic perspective and nurtured my ability to intertwine logic and creativity. Throughout my life, I have navigated the challenges of ADHD and Bipolar Type II. Rather than being hindered by these conditions, I have embraced them as part of my identity and leveraged them to develop a unique form of analytical thinking. This thinking is deeply ingrained in my creative process, influencing my work in profound ways. In my work, I bring together writing, programming, and designing to create unique artistic expressions. My art is not just a form of self-expression; it's a tribute to the world. I see myself not only as a creator but also as a preserver of art and freedoms, a value system that I cherish and strive to expand wherever possible. I approach the world and my art with humility, understanding that my work is both an individual act of creation and a part of something larger. My time in the military, specifically in 'Jägerbataillon 18', posed a challenge, but it shaped my character and offered me a unique perspective on life and art. This experience left traces, but I appreciate them as an integral part of my personal and professional growth. I am a rare combination of a creator, preserver, and defender. My works, influenced by artificial intelligence, reflect my multilayered personality. They offer a captivating window into the intersection of art, technology, and the human spirit, embodying my experiences and vision for the future. I believe in the power of integrating logic with creativity, and this philosophy is evident in my artistic pursuits.
