Here's the prompt we gave Midjourney: „Photo of the process that takes place in the text-to-image software with artificial intelligence at the first moment of generation.“ In 41% of the generated images, the AI software (in this case, Midjourney) shows us a head (usually that of a woman) with an overlaid transparent layer containing text-like but completely unreadable microtext particles and schematic graphic particles. In a few cases, the back of the head is equipped with intricate electronic hardware, making the woman pictured a cyborg. Interpreting these images isn't easy. The women shown here appear questioning, suspicious, or absent-minded. The reason for this could lie in the contents of the overlaid transparent layer, but unfortunately, these contents remain undecipherable. There's much to suggest that there are no contents. Do the depicted ladies know this?

Germany
I am Luxembourg-born scientific illustrator and artist living in Hanover, Germany. For a couple of decades I was a copywriter for Honeywell Bull, Nokia and Siemens. Then I slowly slipped into computer graphics. I specialized in illustrating molecules and fullerenes for a long time. In 1988 I received a recognition of the Prix Ars Electronica for my graphic "Funnel". In 2023 I started doing AI illustrations. I live together with my partner Elke Leger, my favorite photo subject, and a turtle named George.
