Intimate gold Print

I wanted to do an erotic painting with form and texture. It had to something with hands. They are the most versatile body part : the fingers can be straight or curved, fingernails contrast with the skin, the knuckles are rich in form... I decided to go with one hand to have an uncluttered image. With that in mind I thought the curve of the bottom cheeks will compliment the curves of the fingers and of the hand and arm joint. The straightness of the legs and arm gives contrast and finish the composition. The colour scheme of this painting came naturally. I have a background in photography and gold was used to tone black and white photographs. Gold in leaf form is also a very convenient material to cover delicate carvings whilst keeping the details. Digital painting provides a practical way for artist to do their work. I am glad to not having to lug canvases. But I thought I would me missing the physical experience of the materials : the smell of the paint, mixing the colours, the tactile and visual experience of the brush and the canvas. It turned out to be only another experience as rich and rewarding as conventional painting.
