Chaos and Conflict : The Battle of Monmouth ^ Click on Prints (next to Original) to see canvas print details ^ A visit to the re-enacted Battle of Monmouth (1685) by the Sealed Knot was the inspiration for this image. I wished to capture the drama and bustling action of a Middle Ages battle scene complete with loud canons, muskets, pikes, flag banner waving and marching armies (in the background). A section of the fortified bridge is shown in the upper right. The bright colours reflect the bright uniforms and action of the day. Repeating canon balls and musket balls are used to depict the repeated firings and motions of the armies. My artwork explores the cross-overs between photography, collage, digital art and cubist paintings as a way of capturing memories and imagination. The pictures are created using a pen and ink style digitally, based upon my own photographs, and are printed with high-definition inks on stretched canvas. The picture is a blend of Cubist and Expressionist styles and depicts the Battle of Monmouth in Wales, with middle-aged weaponry and actions. The scene is fragmented into geometric shapes and bright colours, representing the chaos and violence of the battle. Swords, shields, canon fire, muskets and pikes add to the tumultuous atmosphere. The use of distorted forms and vivid hues enhances the emotional intensity of the artwork, capturing the drama and brutality of the historical event.

I help bring interest to interior spaces through creative and dramatic fine art pictures. I have been a creator all my life from a childhood with construction toys and later as a professional engineer. Having been gifted my first camera in 1969, I have maintained an interest in photography since then, studying the subject more seriously in recent years. I specialise in capturing ordinary subjects and making them extra ordinary using closeups, lighting, colour or editing to help create mood, inspiration, or interesting talking points. I have a passion for taking time to notice the natural beauty that surrounds us, from the depths of space to the small creatures sharing our lives. In my work I try to encourage the viewer to see the ‘everyday’ in a new light by emphasising the extraordinary nature of its complexity or including it an arrangement to suggest an idea or a concept.
