ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The brain is constantly untangling an amalgamation of meaning, imagination, and memory when processing everyday life and thought. When left unchecked and unchanneled, this “brain vomit” will go to waste, dissipating into the void, but when utilized, however, one can come to deeper understandings about themselves, their values, and the world around them. This piece is one of many "brain vomits," channeling the subconscious.

My name is Jack Donnelly and I am a multimedia artist, born and raised in the United States. I am 23 years old and currently reside in Chicago, IL. Art has always been a part of my life, and thusly, life has always been a part of my art. I am ordinary in that I am unordinary, just as every stranger is different to every other stranger. I have always been interested in these strange ironies and binaries. I grew up creating art, in part because it could allow me to escape, and in part because it could allow me to express. As a child, my art was based in realism, in capturing things exactly as they are, as I see them. I was opposed to the idea of anything abstract, finding solace in my cynicism against deep-thinking proposed by art. As I grew older, so did my understanding of the abstract, and art with deeper meanings. It is no coincidence that with time, my appreciation for the nuances of life captured by art grew stronger. Being a kid, the world is easily black and white, and time mixes those two shades. I am particularly interested in capturing people. The driving force of the the modern world is humanity, and thusly, the endless varieties and types of people are meaningful. My interest in capturing people derives from the interest to capture not only the physical surface of someone, but the illusive quality of their human nature, inherently.
