ABOUT THE ARTWORK
'The Golden Door 5' is a romantic expression coming in the form of a lock that opens the door to realizing golden hopes. Like a fly caught in resin, the man in his efforts to unlock this door ennobles the piece of resin. His efforts turn the resin hopes into semi-precious stones like a Golden Amethyst as time goes by. The 'semi' preciousness cannot become anything more, it is hope's highest achievement. After all, golden hopes are a chiaroscuro concept of an unfulfilled yearning and a temptation that is always more beautiful than reality. Nevertheless, it is worth living for, in the way 'The Little Prince' of Charles de St. Exubery's writings lived for his Rose. The Golden Door is our highest motivation. This work comes in digital format. As an 'artist original', it is available at the online gallery in a limited edition of 6 that can be ordered in canvas. In Rome, Italy, I was drawing and painting since childhood. When I arrived in New York City with $50 in my pocket, I called a few advertising agencies and got my first job working in the Empire State building. I became a sought-after commercial artist working with Geoffrey Hayes, art director of well-known advertising stints such as his famed Absolute Vodka campaign. My collages of New York City in surrealistic postcards were published and sold by the Metropolitan museum in 1979. I translated my love for the Old Masters into watercolor portraits of their works. On the other hand, my love for surrealism expresses my present stage of introspection in digital works of Surrealistic and Abstract-Expressionistic art. I was photographer Francesca Woodman's boyfriend at the time of her death and I introduce my photo of her as I fused it with my work.
