The Mila Project Print

While I was attending art university in Santa Fe , New Mexico I had a project bike that I was finishing up. I had a vision on what I wanted to build and needed help from my local speed shop to bring the vision to life. It was the month of October in2014 and I named my bike "Mila" after the movie 5th Element with Mila Javovovich and Bruce Willis. Speedin' Motorsports delivered my bike to the campus of my college during Halloween. So classic. I rented a studio space, a micro projector, and a digital camera. Most of my paintings are combined with my graphic design skills. Riding motorcycles is very similar to surfing. I was living on Oahu for college and eventually stopped college.I was obsessed with surfing. So I chased a dream and surfed. Surfed my brains out actually. To connect this to motorcycle is about the flow and rhythmn. Both surfing and motorcycles require a sense of flow at high speeds. It’s an instinctual control. When I would ride my motorycles in New Mexico I would listen to music on my ipods. Now most of this was on my dirt bike where one can just let loose. But on deslate roads and on a motorcycle. Same thing. Plug your ear buds in and let the speed flow. My process was similar with tracing the bike on the wall. I plugged in music as if I was going to ride and traced. One hit of the charcoal to the paper like a contour drawing. Now that I have been able to re visit this piece. I have a whole new perspective on it and feel as if this is much stronger as a subjective piece. My goal is to have the viewer connect with my pieces in any fashion but hopefully it is positive.
