ABOUT THE ARTWORK
A stage in a painting that has then been digitally enhanced, not a lot but some. The subject was the last Empress of China Wanrong who's life was a tragedy of epic proportions. I am surprised there has been no memorable biopic of her life, it has everything and is up there with the best of Shakespeare or Tolstoy etc. This picture is based on a combination of her addiction to opium and a poem that she is supposed to have written about a kite. It is perhaps about how escape can be a trap and vice versa, the bittersweet of life.
