During my wanderings through Prague in the footsteps of Franz Kafka, I was struck by the city’s haunting atmosphere. In its narrow alleys, it felt as if Kafka himself might appear at any moment. Everything was steeped in melancholy. As a painter working in a neo‑expressionist style, I found that my ...

I was born in the port city of Danzig, later lived in Hamburg, and eventually found my home in Berlin. I have been creating art for as long as I can remember. I have never connected with conceptual art – my work comes directly from my emotions, my inner tensions, and the feelings that move me. As a neo‑expressionist, I embrace bold color, raw energy, and sharp, decisive brushstrokes on canvas. I am an artist working across multiple disciplines, from painting and photography to digital art, objects, and spatial constructions. My works are not ideas; they are experiences. How do I work? In winter, I usually focus on art theory, continue preparing my book on the subject, and work digitally, becoming a creator of computer‑based art. The results of this can be seen, among other projects, in my “Kafka” series inspired by my time in Prague. In the summer season, I paint in my studio in the Erzgebirge. That is when I feel like a true artist. I smell the paint, I hear the brush scraping across the canvas. I feel completely myself.About my photography: I am not a supporter of so‑called fine photography — for me it feels too artificial, too polished. My photography, which I call brut photography, carries all the imperfections that analog images can have. And that is exactly what draws the viewer in, because it is the real world. Each of us is, in a way, a bit of a voyeur.
