About The Artwork

This drawing was to study this rose that I grew in my garden to get a better understanding of light and form to create the illusion of petals turning and it was also a great way to exercise my pencil drawing skills. I really enjoyed the way it turned out so I've decided to, for the first time ever, offer it in print form as well. As always nothing beats original artwork.

Light in Life, both in people and our surroundings, inspire me. I was born in Camrose, Alberta and I currently have my home studio in Stony Plain, Alberta where I was raised. I started showing and selling my work when I was 14 years old, though I started studying art at an even younger age taking every art course I could go to, and even today I continue with my art education. I consider my larger oil paintings as more fully realized works. I also create sketches, studies, and small works in oil, acrylic, gouache, or watercolor; as well as, drawings in various pencils, charcoals, and inks. I use the human form as a language tool to communicate ideas and emotions that I feel are beyond words. Though the main study and subject I am interested in is the human figure, I also dabble in representational landscapes, cityscapes, and still life. By painting other subject matter it helps to inform and improve my figurative work and also keeps my brush wet in between figurative projects. I have won a Portrait Society of America Tuition Award in 2014 and in the same year had two paintings rank 9th and 10th place in The Portrait Society of Canada's Portrait Competition.
