About The Artwork

The headlines that pass us by every day in newspapers, magazines, and media: -The death of loved ones is forgetting. -Lonely Silent Elder Killer. -Living Alone and Alzheimer's Risk. -Loneliness is like a contagious disease. -Five percent of the elderly population have Alzheimer's disease. A frail old man meeting in a corner of the nursing home looking for his loved ones in the face of others who cannot even conjure up a picture of himself or his past. It may be called the process of human extermination, the destruction of human beings in society who have lost their function and been forgotten. Is this the kind of future that will be the same for us? The contrast between death and life, darkness and light and the past and the future.

Mahdi Mahdian's practice is centered on an exploration of psycho-socio-sexual themes through the creation of character-driven visual fictions in painting and drawing. He is a figurative artist rooted in the practice of noticing details and his subjects perform indeterminate, immobile, campy distillations of identity, emotional life, and existential questions. Mahdian was born in Iran and immigrated to Ukraine after having received a systematic education in Fine Arts at the most prestigious art university in Iran. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts with High Distinction from the University of Tehran in 2013 and was awarded a scholarship direct entry for graduate studies, but he decided to continue his education in a different environment outside of Iran, therefore, he studied graduate studies in Painting at Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts in Ukraine. Studying in the classic Academy atmosphere brings a sense of clarity and confidence that would benefit an artist’s profession in a methodological way. He has held several group exhibitions in Iran, Ukraine, and Lebanon and also managed to hold an independent exhibition of his collection of drawing and painting works individually. Mahdi Mahdian lives and works in Ukraine where he conducts private and face-to-face teaching in several schools and holds a variety of drawing workshops and painting techniques.
