About The Artwork

A portrait painted on a broken handmade porcelain shard. The drawing is made with ceramic colors called Angobs, and all the piece is fired in ceramic kiln to 1200° C. The figure is an angel from Leonardo De Vinchi's painting. Leonardo's drawings are a source of inspiration for me with their special vibe and reflective gaze of the characters. I enjoy giving them my contemporary interpretation. The small painting made in intimacy with the figure and the clay bedding in my palm invites the viewer to take a close look and follow the thoughtful look of the gurdian angel. The shared is framed in a deep wooden frame like an open box with no glass on it as showen in the added photos. Hanging hook is attached behind. The work can be placed on a shelf and lean on the wall, or hang directly to the wall.

Ayelet Zer Sheinboim ceramic artist . In my work I use fractions of vases (shards) which I paint and print on them images that I take from my old family albums, landscape photographs and drawings of admired artists. I deal with issues of memory and belonging to different groups (like family, womanhood…). Working on small scale, holding the broken piece in my hand and painting or printing on it make me feel very intimate with my work and I hope that this feeling will pass to the viewer.
