Iulia Enkelana (pseudonym of Iulia-Maria Kyçyku) was born in Bucharest in 1999 to a Romanian and Albanian family. She has made several short films (Imperfect circles, MATCH, Prenaisscance, The Birth of an Idea, Hand Made Poetry, She blinks, I had to pawn the diamond, The absent city, de/mascat, and others), some of which have been officially selected in international film festivals, such as Ridgefield Independent Film Festival, Tirana International Film Festival, SIMULTAN Festival, Her Independent Film Festival, or Retrospective of Jupiter. Iulia is the author of a novel (Dacă există o voce / If there is a voice, 2021) several plays (published in the anthologies 5 piese scurte la FNT 2024, Drama 5 - 5 piese de teatru, 2021 and DeMontat), short stories, poems and essays. She has published two online albums: do you remember your first loneliness (photographs, 2017) and Eyeland (drawings, 2016). Iulia graduated from the Faculty of Theatre and Film, University Babeș-Bolyai, Cluj-Napoca, with a BA in Theatre Studies, writing a thesis that discusses the debate surrounding canonical works and the relevance of Hamlet, A Doll’s House, and Six Characters in Search of an Author in contemporary times. She also holds an MA in Visual Cultural Studies – Society, Multimedia, and Performance from the Center of Excellence in the Study of Image, University of Bucharest, with a thesis on cinema's influence on identity.
