About The Artwork

'Blodeuwedd' In the Welsh tales of the Mabinogion, Blodeuwedd is magically created by magicians from stone and flowers for Llew. However, Blodeuwedd fell in love with the huntsman Gronw, and betrayed Llew, so Gwydion changed her into an owl, banishing her into the dark wooded night. The independent Blodeuewdd becomes wise all-seeing owl whose intuitive vision peers deep through our psyche. The central heraldic motif with ostrich feathers is generally traced back to Edward of Woodstock ('The Black Prince'). He bore (as an alternative to his differenced royal arms) a shield of Sable, three ostrich feathers argent, described as his "shield for peace", probably meaning the shield he used for jousting.

Catherine is a mostly self-taught artist based in Westminster, London. After a brief spell attending art school she later studied law through London School of Law, and later for a MA in philosophy. Catherine remains a devoted artist, creating complex and detailed surreal drawings, often expansive. Her specialism is fine ink drawing, from which she occasionally develops digital adaptations. Catherine's inspiration derives from the philosophy of aesthetics, a combination of dreams from her collective subconscious, 'sacred geometry' in nature and esoteric principles from the period of late antiquity.
