ABOUT THE ARTWORK
From the time I was a little boy, horses have played a major role in my life. This horse, a mare by the name of "George" was my wife's horse for 38 years. I was inspired to first capture her motion by taking a picture then turning the photograph into a pencil drawing. I was fascinated by the way that the camera could freeze a dynamic so that it could be better understood.

I work in Yosemite National Park as a tour guide. I have worked in Yosemite for over 30 years. My artwork is inextricably tied to my Yosemite Geography and my ecological message. I am a plein air painter, print maker, and photographer. I also write and illustrate my own books. I am the author of "A Brief Instruction in Christian Religion," (A translation of Faustus Socinus), "The Chronicles of the Field Mouse Timothy," (Corn,Tomato,Wheat, Cotton, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Paddy, Pond Mouse and Yosemite), "Nature Vision" (Poems), and I have illustrated the short stories of my late daughter Sandra Fontana "Cereal at Midnight." I love nature and the wilderness. I am a proponent of the global national parks movement.
