We live in a mad old world,of short term cupidity (Oh Cupid...) and running around in circles. I've written too many statements that only read as portentous and trite, so I will try to explain the stream of conciousness that scratches out these drawings. Mention of the word Heritage, brings me out in hives, I don't know about you. Drawing is like radio, the colour is much brighter and the contrast sharper. Allegory is in the mind of the beholder. Geometry is the key that unravels the puzzle. Tourist traps are at their best in the pouring rain. How much that you actually saw can you remember? It was my art teacher at school who turned me into an outsider when she repeatedly demanded that I paint it now. I draw from memory and use Euclidian geometry to provide the structure. I push the point,so to speak, by forcing perspectives and people each image with those snapshots of where I have been and what I have seen in the same manner as we construct our dreams though the jokes and visual puns are deliberate I have exhibited in the past, in Britain and America, though as a sculptor and a maker,I was green woodworking consultant for a big arts project in London a couple of years ago. But this is back on the merry go round again and this portfolio is yet to be shown. There is a grammar to laying places in space and when you think about it: this is as ancient as civilisation. Once the rules are learned, there is this amazing freedom to throw a stream of consciousness against a fixed horizon... because that's what perspective is. It's all about the individual viewpoint and recently, we've all been witness to some extreme perspectives. Because each perspective is unique, there are associated manifestations that make it so; from the nature of the universe to the workings of the brain. I have great fun with such phenomena as pareidolia, lucid dreaming and the snapshot nature of memory, in a way that makes each image a cryptic puzzle to be solved into a narrative. This collection seems to have resolved itself into a comment on that oldest of industries. From Langdale Pike to Disneyworld; sightseeing, is the name of the game.
