I saw an episode about Crop Circles on the TV show: Ancient Aliens (USA). Texture and patterns are made in farmers' wheat fields and in grass. They just pop up out of nowhere. Started a series about Crop Circles. The Crop Circle motif represented in this drawing is from the underside of a rubber p...

Mell Boesch, an emerging Contemporary Artist, moved from Fairfield County, Connecticut to Kittery, Maine. I have created art my entire life. Color, pattern, texture and movement are important elements in my work. Movement is achieved by placing shapes near each other to replicate the trajectory that a pinball makes. This push and pull creates the movement. These forms extend past the edge, making the image appear larger than it actually is. In 2006-2012 studied with Flo Hatcher, Master Printer at the Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven, CT. I took a non-toxic printmaking class. I fell in love with the experimental, creative process that this medium provides. Coming from a Watercolor painting background, I use brushes (brush strokes creates texture) to apply Acrylic paint to the many consumer items and custom hand-cut stencils that I use. I sourced out a hard-wearing plastic, easily cuts with scissors. Workshop participants & I still use the stencils that were created in 2006, In 2007, I developed a formula from art & consumer liquids that extends the working time, that allows me to apply paint to 2-20 items that are then run through per single pass of the press roller. The thrill of the hunt is to find these objects and to see what kind of an impression is made, as the object bites deep down into the paper. The build-up of the creative process layers reminds me of Photoshop layers. When you collapse all of the layers you wind up with one image. I invite the viewer to peek down through these layers. What do you see? Do you recognize any of the items that you use in your kitchen or maybe from your garage? Or maybe a toy that your child plays with? 2010, Worksjhops: Copper Plate Photo Etching and Carborundum printing taught by Master printer: Anthony Kirkat at the Contemporary Center for Printmaking (CCP) in Norwalk, CT. My Grandmother taught me how to make planters from toothpaste caps and how to apply decals onto soap. We would take the train from Long Island into New York City to view works of art at these world renowned museums.
