In 2013, by observing atlases and satellite views of various mega cities, notably the city of Paris, I wondered how people can live in these confined spaces, so cramped, where transit, activity and profit have taken over the day to day social and human well being . That’s how I came up with the idea of a map as a device for representing economic and social disparities in order to revisit and reread the city’s outline. In that series GRID ZONE (cities seen from space) I decided to move away from the map as a point of reference by excluding street names, buildings and neighbourhoods and to draw a more social and ecological map, because the vestiges of the past do not interest me in so much as the current human footprint does. For that series, I abandoned colour and I returned to a minimalist version of art. Paper, rotring and black Indian ink are the main features of my work. The black Indian ink areas represent vegetation, parks, gardens, and woodland. GRID ZONE is the framework of the life of man as a metaphor for urban density, hyper urbanisation and the oppression that comes with it. I endeavoured to posit the entropic effects of man on nature and its footprint from the sky. (If you have any question or require any specific print size, please get in touch : )
