ABOUT THE ARTWORK
My educational background is in Mechanical Engineering, and the idea of using a mesh in portrait illustrations stems from the subject "Finite Element Analysis' where an industrial product modeled in 3D, is meshed using a set of triangular and rectangular polygons interconnected together, for analysis of stresses. Viewers will feel a sense of seeing a 3D object with a beautiful design of mesh running in some specific directions representing the skin of a person represented in the subject matter. Pencil graphite on paper is chosen so that it provides an easy way to apply shades, and the monochrome color (Black & White) look represents people from earlier generations where color photographs or videos were not accessible to all easily.
