I remember having lunch at the famous Vulcan Hotel when cycling the Otago Rail Trail years ago. I loved reading about the history of the building from the Gold Mining era, and the reported hauntings! I wanted to capture the beautiful stonework and slightly eerie nature of the Hotel.

About the Artist

Katherine Mcgowan

New Zealand

Katherine studied art and art history at Elam School of Fine Art in Auckland. In contrast to the modern art influence of Elam, she focuses on traditional pencil on paper.

She is currently working on a series of buildings destroyed in the 2010/2011 Christchurch Earthquakes.
