ZZoe James-Williams is an acclaimed Welsh artist based along the picturesque Gower coast, celebrated for her evocative ballet and figurative paintings. Known for their depth, grace, and emotional resonance, Zoe’s works have been exhibited widely across the UK and Channel Islands, earning her a distinguished place in the contemporary art scene. Zoe was honoured to be the first-ever Artist in Residence at Swansea Grand Theatre in 2009, a groundbreaking role that offered her unparalleled access to both on-stage performances and the behind-the-scenes world of the theatre. This experience profoundly influenced her artistic journey, enabling her to capture the dynamic contrast between the enchantment of the spotlight and the quiet devotion of those working behind it. As an Official Ambassador for Derwent Art, Zoe collaborates with principal ballet dancers from some of the world’s most renowned companies, including The Royal Ballet, The Mariinsky, The Bolshoi, and The English National Ballet. She has been privileged to immortalise the performances of icons such as Alina Cojocaru, Johan Kobborg, and Xander Parish, whose portrayal of Romeo in Romeo and Juliet has left an indelible mark on her creative vision. Zoe’s creative process is uniquely personal. She draws inspiration directly from her encounters with the performers she portrays, eschewing third-party imagery to create works imbued with authenticity and intimacy. Her art has found its way into prestigious collections worldwide, including those of Alina Cojocaru, Johan Kobborg, the Welsh National Opera, and Swansea Grand Theatre. Prominent collectors of her work include Bill Wyman of The Rolling Stones and Chas Hodges of Chas & Dave. Beyond her artistic practice, Zoe is passionate about sharing her knowledge and skills. She teaches drawing and watercolour classes both in-person along the Gower coast and online, inspiring a new generation of artists with her expertise and enthusiasm. With a career that bridges fine art and the performing arts, Zoe James-Williams continues to captivate audiences with her ability to illuminate the beauty, passion, and dedication inherent in her subjects.
