About The Artwork

I created a series of very small portraits (12cm by 8cm) of in-depth film and television characters drawn in a realistic style for my body of work submitted for an art class project. My decision to create these portraits was based on my desire to explore the connection between fiction and reality and how good fiction is emotive and powerful only when we can draw parallels between it and our own reality. I hope that this concept translates into the artwork. I chose for the artwork to be small in size because I wanted to focus more on the impression of the tone and texture rather than go into extreme detail. The unnamed protagonist from the film 'Fight Club' is a perfect example of how good fiction and well-written, in-depth characters are able to evoke strong, powerful responses within us as the fiction has many parallels with our own world and reality and we are therefore able to relate to certain aspects.

As of a young age I've been very interested in many different forms of art and creating art. I've always gravitated to creating artworks featuring people or animals as I personally find these to be particularly curiosity-arousing and emotive. I lean towards realism and stylised type artworks yet still enjoy exploring other styles and developing and expanding my skills. My realism artworks are often inspired by my desire to carefully work on intricate details and replicate the tone and texture, as well as the emotions and context behind it, of life and reality and to hopefully offer a new perspective by detailing and emphasising things that would otherwise be ignored.
