Looking at some of my other works and picking out a detail I thought that’d make a great image on its own. I want people to find their own story in my work. I chose graphite and pencil to creat the glossy feel with fine lines and depth of shadow.

The career of Russ Snedker is a testament to the endurance of the creative spirit. A multidisciplinary artist, photographer, and former creative director, Snedker’s work is defined by a rare "dual-sight": the disciplined precision of a technical illustrator and the raw, expressive power of a fine artist. His journey began in the mid-1970s with an offer from the prestigious Slade School of Fine Art—an opportunity deferred by financial hurdles, but one that set the stage for a global career spanning engineering, high-stakes commercial photography, and monumental sculpture. The Foundation: Stone, Steel, and the German LineSnedker’s early training was deeply rooted in the physical. Working in his stepfather’s masonry business, he developed a profound understanding of three-dimensional form, eventually being awarded Best Apprentice (Southern Region) by the National Association of Monumental Masons. This mastery of stone was soon complemented by the precision of the drafting table. Following a technical illustration role at Mapline Engineering, Snedker moved to West Germany to work for Audi/Volkswagen, where he adhered to the rigorous "DIN" standards of automotive production manuals. This era of precision was further enriched by his work with the German Archaeological Institute in Ingolstadt, where he translated Celtic village reconstructions and metalwork finds into exacting academic records. The Digital Vanguard and the Global StageIn the 1980s, Snedker became a pioneer of the digital revolution. As Creative Director at Premier Magazines, he led the visual transition from traditional layout boards to Desktop Publishing for clients such as British Airways. This command of technology paved the way for a 30-year career in photography. Based in Dubai from 2005 to 2014, he set "European standards" as the head of photography for Gulf News and excelled in the high-stakes world of underwater fashion photography, winning multiple Color Masters nominee awards. His technical reputation led to major international commissions:Armani Hotel Dubai (2010): Commissioned to photograph the behind-the-scenes world of the grand opening fashion show for a commemorative coffee table book, working alongside Giorgio Armani inside the Burj Khalifa.Germany’s Next Top Model (2012): Selected to shoot twelve models within the Ambassador Lagoon aquarium at Atlantis, The Palm. This period also featured a collaboration with conceptual artist Nadia Kaabi-Linke and exhibitions at Art Dubai.
