ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Winners exhibition at the Chaiya Art Awards: Gallery@OXO, London. OXO Tower Wharf. 2021. Theme: A response to God is ... God is benevolent. The Christian doctrine of the Trinity claims God is one God, but he is also three co-eternal persons: The Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. In this drawing God is depicted as Jesus Christ in a modern interpretation of the crucifixion (where Jesus was nailed to a cross after he had been flogged with a whip and had a 'crown' of thorns pressed onto him). Jesus had died innocent in the most appalling and drawn out way. But why? In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus knew he was to pay the penalty of death for the sins of mankind, from the first to the last. I chose to depict war as the greatest sin of man. War is caused by few but fought with many with no regard to the orphans, widows and homeless it would leave behind in a trail of death and destruction. It is a sin committed over and over again throughout history and even now. Jesus knew all the atrocities man would commit during war and yet chose to forgive and give his life because he loved his Father with an infinite love, and he loved the sinner.

Self-taught artist. I do paintings and drawings but specialise in gouache, watercolour, and acrylic works on paper. I like to make works with meaning, it’s not always about the subject in the painting but rather what it represents.
