ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The modern social rules tell us to be like a robots: to hide our feelings, to be “standard”, to not show our individuality. But the part of human, the part of natural, maybe even the wild animal part always remains inside everyone. It couldn’t be erased. This artwork is a manifesto of the hided emotions which always try to go out from the robot mask. The artwork is a self portrait of Konstantin Lakstigal. The hands and plants are drawn with sanguine, the background is drawn with black ink.

In contemporary world, human beings have been moving further away from their nature. We live in boxes made of glass and concrete, we hide our emotions, behave strictly and formally, we say what we need to, but not what we really think and feel. We are afraid to be courageous and original, because society forces us to be "standard", to hide our individuality. The creative career of Konstantin Lakstigal is a manifesto of the liberation of that repressed, but indestructible part of a real, living human nature that will always live inside of us. Konstantin Lakstigal was born in 2001 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Since his early childhood, he loved painting and art. In 2016 he graduated from the St. Petersburg City Children's Art School named after G.N. Antonov, St. Petersburg, Russia. In 2021, Konstantin finished the Foundation Year at the Syracuse Academy, Syracuse, Italy. In 2021, Konstantin entered the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, Faculty of Painting, Milan, Italy.
