ABOUT THE ARTWORK
"Harlequin and his bird" is a graphic work of art from the Harlequin Soul series. Many of my paintings and graphic works are dedicated to the theater, because the creation of scenography for performances has fascinated me for more than 20 years. I created the scenery for about 200 performances in different theaters of Ukraine. In my creative activity, the theater is closely intertwined with painting and graphics. This is how a series of theatrical images and characters turned out, in which the main thing is not external resemblance, but the disclosure of a person’s spiritual qualities using theatrical means and symbols. A work of graphics tells about love and tenderness. Graphic work is done in mixed media: watercolor and gouache on watercolor paper, 2002.

Iryna Lupashchenko is a contemporary stage designer and artist. Many of her works are an exciting journey into the world of theatre and stage. For over twenty years, she has been working on the world literature classics. She has created set design and costumes for more than a hundred plays, along with five hundred paintings and drawings. The artist aspires to feel the drama through her inherently natural view and create an emotional and wholesome artistic imagery of the future performance while staying true to the artistic value of laconism. Iryna Lupashchenko`s paintings are deeply symbolic. Each work tells a story that strikes a nerve and never leaves the audience indifferent. Figurative portraits of the mysterious Harlequins, many-faced actors and delicate travesties present spectators insides of the theatre and reveal the world behind curtains. Iryna dreams about showing her art to the entire world so that it can bring joy to as many people as possible. Her paintings and drawings can be found in private collections across Germany, Poland, Ukraine and Russia.
