In the art world, some artists do more than take viewers on a visual journey; they also leave traces of their mind, soul, and sincere mode of expression. Taylan Özgür Çalışkan is precisely such an artist. Born in Istanbul in 1979, Çalışkan grew up immersed in drawing from a young age and became one of the founders of Turkey’s first digital art magazine, e-canavar, showing an early dedication to art. Çalışkan’s creative process is guided by spontaneity rather than premeditated composition. Before placing the first brushstroke on the canvas, he prefers to keep his mind entirely free of any planned thoughts, allowing the artwork to develop naturally, freely, and joyfully. This approach reflects in his works, transmitting a direct sense of sincerity to the viewer. For him, art is a form of expression, a concentrated way of communicating with oneself, engaging in a dialogue even with thoughts unknown to oneself. He deliberately avoids repetition in his works, believing that repeating oneself hinders the long-term creative process. Navigating the challenges and freedoms of abstract art, Çalışkan creates a style that is both original and compelling. To him, calling a painting “complete” is an abstract concept; the process is an ongoing dialogue between himself and the work. There is no obligation in his art to convey a message or remind the world of anything. He simply channels his inner journey, thoughts, and emotions onto the canvas, and viewers who choose to engage perceive this sincerity and form their own connection. Taylan Özgür Çalışkan’s works stand out in the art world as reflections of spontaneity, authenticity, and a distinctive abstract language.
