Erik Roger was born in Belgium in 1967. He lives near the city of Ghent, where he also has his studio. "Even though I have studied product design, I am more interested in what happens in the two-dimensional plane. For me, making abstraction from the three-dimensional world to the two-dimensional plane is a particularly fascinating process. Now I am teaching drawing classes and mixed media at Luca School of Arts, where it is mainly about drawing interiors, furniture and objects. But what really interests me are people. That's what you discover in my themes and that's probably why I am teaching. In my work I often combine techniques and materials that do not fit together at first. The materials then behave unpredictably, causing unexpected things to occur. It’s always a quest, each time discovering what the next step will be and then being surprised by what is happening.”
