Jet Set Print

I've done a lot of writing and illustration for travel magazines and travel companies. This is how it often felt, a bit crowded. But look how elegant those planes are. Aerodynamic. Smooth. Perfect. Despite how I've done my best to make travel appear effortless, it isn't. I know that because the real jobs are done by people I've known. Airline pilots. Jet engine mechanics. Engineers. Air traffic controllers and dispatchers; those are the people who do story problems: the air at 15,000 feet is traveling east/southeast at 100 mph and the aircraft weighs X tons fully loaded and the distance between Minneapolis and Atlanta is Y, how much jet fuel do you need? A complex business model. For a few years I did ads for an airline. They appeared at the top of the business section of USAToday every day. They were just bits of humor and not about air travel at all. But pressed, I can draw a fair jetliner. If nobody is watching. When pencil touches paper it's simply a neat, streamlined object I'm drawing. Easier to draw than to fly.
