About The Artwork

This piece was done with pencil on canvas and took nearly a year to complete!

"La Rete" is the Italian phrase for "The Internet" or rather, in this context, the grid. I really put a lot of myself into this piece, working for hours and hours each day until the canvas was completely filled and once I hung it up and took a few steps back to admire my work, I was left feeling absolutely blown away by what my hand had translated onto the canvas. This is still one of my absolute favorite pieces that I have ever made.

In 2008 I challenged myself to learn/become fluent in Italian in anticipation of a study abroad trip I would be taking the very next year. I became fluent and then some, and stepped off the place in Rome literally understanding every conversation and advertisement that entered my immediate vicinity. It was such a beautiful experience and this piece takes its namesake from that experience.

As an artist, I am deeply inspired by the natural world and the way that it constantly evolves and transforms. My passion for nature is reflected in my artwork, which often features organic shapes and earthy tones. Through my art, I hope to convey the beauty and complexity of the natural world, and to encourage others to appreciate and protect it. In addition to my love of nature, I am also deeply influenced by jazz music and the spirit of improvisation. I see my art as a form of improvisation, in which I explore different textures, colors, and forms in a spontaneous and intuitive way. Just as jazz musicians use improvisation to create new and unexpected melodies, I use my art to create unique and dynamic compositions that reflect my innermost thoughts and emotions. Finally, I am also passionate about hip-hop culture and the way that it has revolutionized art and music. Hip-hop has always been a platform for self-expression and innovation, and I see my art as a continuation of that tradition. Whether I'm creating graffiti-inspired murals or mixed media installations, I am always looking for ways to push the boundaries and challenge the status quo. In sum, my art is a reflection of my diverse passions and influences, from the natural world to jazz music to hip-hop culture. Through my work, I hope to inspire others to embrace their own creativity and to connect with the world around them in a deeper and more meaningful way.
