ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Malala, as an adult, inspired me to make this portrait. She is now a Nobel Laureate, a graduate of Oxford University. I want the viewer to see Malala as a strong, mature, young woman. This is a strong charcoal portrait with contrasts of light and dark that capture her proud nature, her strength, and her humanity. She is a hero to young women throughout the world.
