Mob Mentality Print

I drew this in an earlier political period when unreason seemed to be gaining the upper hand. When power is the only goal it opens the door to what we call Mob Mentality, where lust for power overwhelms and overrides reasoned thought and deliberation. The mob we saw on January 6th, 2021 had a headlessness. It was ginned up by the then president and directed to assault the nation's deliberative body. A case of an irrational leader directing an irrational mob. When I drew this during the 2001-2009 Bush presidency gut feeling had superseded reasoned and informed thought, creating what the president's advisor said was "our own reality." We saw the same rejection of reason and science and democratic process during the recent administration, culminating in a president's mob looting the Capitol. A headless, cloven-footed beast seemed an apt metaphor in both eras. How many times will this insanity recur? The old mythical concepts from a pre-rational age seem very apt again in the 21st century.
