About The Artwork

Growing up in NYC City was very stressful for me as a baby, child, teen and young adult. As far back as I can remember people were trying to kidnap me, flash me, abduct me or convince me to leave my Mom because they will buy me a bigger doll house or more toys and give me more candy they claimed. I would say being an artist called to me because my life has always been so full. In school it was hard because the girls were not really my friends they had insecurities about what they looked like and were jealous of me. I never spoke about being signed as a young pre teen did not want to make anyone upset. Its sad, but as I grew up people I never knew or spoke to pretended we were friends because they saw me in magazines. Young men I never dated lied and said I was their girlfriend or dated me when they never asked me out let alone spoke to me even. You have to be careful when people say they know this one or that one and why they are gossiping or sharing private info? What is their motive behind the story? What are there intentions? This book is a fashion “medley”. A collaboration of different photos taken by different photographers that photographed my fashion designs and captured my beauty as it developed and blossomed from pre-teen thru adult hood. Trying to make it in the fashion/ model industry without any connections was very difficult. There were many open calls, go see interviews, meetings, mailings before there was any success. 24/7 would still not be enough time to devote to being signed with an agency or manager. Being selected for a model shoot and being called back to work again and having to look exactly like photo is hard. Could not cut hair or grow, color even change eye brow shape or gain any weight because then you need new photos all over again. The competition was intense and non-stop. The insults, advice “constructive criticism” along with the sales pitches never ended. Everyone wants to sell you something that will help you achieve your dreams. Starting at age 11, I begged my mother to take me to open calls. 5 min late was a turn away, so I learned at a very young age never be late try to be early. Wrong outfit, styling hair the incorrect part cost you a modeling job. Saying the wrong thing at the wrong time meant that I was to inexperienced. It is all subjective the fashion, acting, modeling industry its at their discretion because they are the boss at that time. I was advised to cut my hair and eyes lashes, pluck eyebrows because was told to ethnic and were to long and then the next agency told me to grow my hair and eyelashes and they wanted full grownup natural eyebrows. I did not color my hair like the other children/pre teens or had manicures yet so they appeared to be more commercial than I as a young pre teen. Like Brooke Shields, I had naturally curly hair and thick eyebrows that critics termed “bushy” or “exotic”. It was not the look. Instead brown chestnut hair with honey colored streaks like Cindy Crawford not dark brown was coveted. My 5’6 height became an issue later on. I was signed early as a pre- teen, but I did not have braces. Not having a commercial smile became a problem later on needed perfect teeth so they claimed but the other models had crooked teeth so I learned early on that some people had the rules bent and others were not able to. all the Critics said I needed to look more “commercial”. It has always been so stressful and all the types of models you have parts, hair modeling, runway, print work & catalog, It took time for my eyebrows to grow back from waxing for different photo shoots my hair was damaged had to cut from it being burned from different photo shoots and each stylist claiming they were the exception and they knew what they were doing. My hair was damaged from straightening perms and blow drying, so I had to cut my hair and start all over again time and time again for photoshoots and fashion shows. My natural gorgeous long eyelashes random people and hair stylist assumed were fake and told me I need to cut them, But eyelashes do not grow back. One fashion show had me place on false lashes and they ripped my real ones off with the glue. They claimed my eyelashes were taken away from the clothes or shoes. My nails had to aways be kept short. Now Not sure if it was sabotage or constructive criticism. When I was signed by a model and talent agency I had to agree to a four year exclusive contract that did not permit me to work for anyone else. This book is a collaboration of different photographers and looks that gave me the experience that I have today. What I learned is that it is important you don't become lost with trying to find representation, but try to find the right representation that likes you the way you are so they do not make you go through a unnecessary run around to select another model that looks exactly like you but they sign them and not you. I went on some auditions that they told me to cut my hair and come back after. I did not return because it was obvious they wanted to ruin my chances but the first time I fell for it. Maybe they had a friend you never know why people tell you things and then you do what they said and they did not even have authority to tell you that which was false pretense all together and you can sue them over it. They so easy disappeared when you were looking for them they no longer worked their they were a intern the other employees had no idea who i am referring to and there you are with plucked eyebrows and short hair and tell you to retune with a different look. Many ups and downs in modeling Industry, fashion and arts. Its all pretty much the same rules what out for lions, tigers and bears. When you read press, good press, bad press, fake press and tons of slander and try to realize that not everything you read is tnot always true because it depends who wrote the article or were they paid off by competitors whats the real story behind the story. Whats the real deal. I had to take bloggers to court, multiple publications and journalists/ reporters for the incorrect information and sometimes its to late the statue of limitations is over and cant do anything about the incorrect info printed. They claim all press is good press but its not true. My reputation was tampered with because of miserable people that did not want me to make it or who felt i had to much success because they had none. Its all sad, but its all apart of the entertainment industry. The good, the bad and the ugly. I have grown a thicker skin, but that comes with experience. You try to place a band aid on the boo-boo but it never really goes away, but you know for next time to be less trusting. Please add some color to your walls with my art.
