ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Being a queer artist I feel this piece a lot. As a trans woman it can feel like a lot of pressure is placed upon me and I have heard the term "monstrosity in a dress" used before to describe trans women. Therefore in the drawing is the remains of a woman turned monstrosity being ripped apart by roses. Symbolising how many trans and gender non conforming individuals are ripped apart and destroyed by the beauty standards forced upon them by white cisgendered Western culture.
