About The Artwork
I drew this painting in 2020, when we were wary in anticipation that COVID is gone and life will return to normal. Our family rented an isolated vacation home. It was for the first time that we had the concern of being isolated to forget all concern about prophylactic measures. The beach flip-flops were my best friends, since in Portugal socializing with our friends was not advisable due to the pandemic. The mandalas on this board are repeated, like the routines we had to perform daily, always the same.... In this painting I made I killed the nostalgia for the colors and for the joy that was so lacking in the quarantine.

Vera Fonseka is an artist based in Portugal whose paintings have been widely exhibited nationally. She describes her works as conveying the paradoxical existence between the scrupulous intricacy of the details and the brutality of iconography. Fonseka's artistic process is marked by her use of mixed techniques with adhesives, fabrics, acrylics, and oils on canvas. She was born in 1982 in Tallinn (ex URSS, actually Estonia) in an actors-family. In 2003 Vera moved to Portugal where she's been living since then. Inspired by Kandinsky, Frank Stella, Beatriz Milhazes and Alexandra Mir, Vera Fonseka tries to make conceptual contribution in Contemporary Art.
