ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Main God of Norse mythology in that he is one of the three creator and all-powerful gods. At the origin of cosmogony he would have created the Universe and fathered the first two humans, in the defeat of the primordial Giants. His role, like most of the Nordic gods, is, by his multiple functions, complex : he is the god of the dead, of victory and of knowledge. Odin gave victory by inspiring intelligence and strategy, much more than by activating the ardor of warriors. Patron of scalds, he is a needy Odin who reaches erudition as well as magic. He is also the embodiment of the companion whose wild hunt is the paragon. He is therefore a wise, courageous and generous, but feared god, who has dark features which can be deceitful and severe. The Quest for Knowledge: Being hard-working Odin peregrinates over the roads of the world, observing and questioning it. When he ventured to the Fountain of Mimir, near the Jötunheim - the world of Giants -, he sacrificed an eye in order to show his willingness to drink from the source of wisdom and knowledge and to acquire the knowledge of the past, present and future. If Odin is a fighting god he also seeks to ensure peace. To do this, in addition to power and force, knowledge in order to unlock the secrets of the world is necessary for him.
