ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The rooster is a brightly colored gentleman. He signals the start of the day and rules his barnyard kingdom with style. When I was a child, I would spend hours with my grandmother, looking out her kitchen window at the many birds that visited her backyard. She had feeders and bird baths that were enjoyed by a wide variety of feathered friends living near her rural home. My style of artwork tends to be whimsical and fun. Most recently, I have gravitated towards pen and ink drawings that allow me to put lots of color and detail into each piece. To my delight, I discovered that the Audubon Society classifies these chubby little birds as “borbs”. Every time I create a new borb, it makes me smile. I hope they will bring a smile to your face as well.

Amy's work has been shown in juried exhibitions and is held by private collectors from coast to coast. Her first solo show, "Figure, Fashion & Fame", debuted at Dacia Gallery in NYC during Fashion Week in Feb 2019. Amy lives and works in Madison, NJ. Artist Statement - “I am enamored with the human figure and portraiture and the endless possibilities of the subject. I love exploring ways to give traditional representations a modern twist. I work with various mediums, including pen and ink and paint to create images full of color and detail. Much of my work includes grand expressions of fashion, which I have always loved. I am drawn to the fantasy and aesthetic of garments, headpieces and accessories. I make abundant use of patterns as well, many of which are found in the natural world around us. The historical significance and transformative power of fashion also play a role in my work. I often use royals and celebrities as my subjects as their fashion choices have been influential and helped to shape the culture of their time. My goal is to create whimsical images that delight, provoke or simply make people see what they know in a different way.”
