ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Available as a print, in many sizes. Action caricature and portrait. 4B pencil & 6B graphite stick sketch, 14.25 x 10 inches, 36 x 25.5 cm on a smooth white majong paper. Actually untitled, Sluice is the name on the event I was invited to sketch one night. This was one of the more memorable sketches done there .. the owner reciting poetry while the other was spinning the beats & effects. The sketch was done on location, inside the club, surrounded by jostling crowds and working in dim light. The people were not really posing, just being themselves. The yellowish stain atop the ‘o’ on the podium is an indication to the hazards of the situation… This is part of a series done between 1999 and 2000 in various nightclubs in Singapore. Many of the sketches were bought up by the until then unsuspecting clubber! The second picture is a composition with me sketching on location back then (2000).

I'm Canadian born now residing in Malaysia. I've been working professionally as an artist since 1980 ish… time flies. I have exhibited my paintings in Vancouver and coastal B.C., Bangkok, Singapore & Malaysia, areas I’ve lived in over time. Now I do it all online. I’ve traveled extensively over the years and you’ll see that people, places and cultures are a recurring theme in my art. I attach importance to papers I use for my paintings. Some are done on acid free watercolour papers, from 180lb weight to 300lb. I also use handmade parchment type papers. These are thick yet pliable, strong, with deckled edge that add to the look of my paintings. I’m still a passionate guy. I’m passionate about life and people, passionate about art and painting. And I feel really at my best when I’m putting all these things down on paper. I only wish I had more time to delve into all these activities of mine. But I work with what I have. My health sucks so I’m slowing down. And there's more: book illustration, portrait, comic strip, caricature. I also work with camera and computer, to create the images brush strokes just can't deliver. So follow my brush work and hopefully you’ll find that special painting meant just for you.
