As a longtime admirer of visual arts and photography, I enjoy recreating scenes of the modern world based on photographs taken during my travels and every day life. As a self-taught apprentice using mostly chalk pastel, pencil and other mixed medium, I look for deep color contrasts that recreate moods and experiences. By working from photographs and old master works, and listening to the timeless themes found in music as inspiration, this process allows me to reflect on experiences in the physical world and connect with the music, art, history and ideas of the generational greats that have impacted us all. Favorites subjects include natural settings, architectural studies, and images mixing impressionism and abstract. Strong influences include Chagall, Bonnard, the spanish avant-garde and neo-classical romaticism, to name a few. Musical influences include Eric Clapton, Dylan, The Doors, Dave Matthews, BB King, Robert Johnson, and Otis Redding. Personally I enjoy traveling to new and exotic places, dabbling in photography, hiking, and spending time with family. Originally raised in New York and the South Shore of Long Island, I currently reside in Colorado with my wife.
