ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The Cookout is a peephole into the world of the black community. It displays one of the most iconic events in the black community, which is the backyard cookout. The inspiration behind The Cookout is that I noticed that many of the conflicts between cultures is caused due to the lack of understanding and relatability amongst them. Thus the goal of The Cookout was to accurately and realistically depict a portion of the experience of a black person, that people from other cultures can also resonate with. Hanging hardware is not included. Pastels were used.
