ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Pashupatinath is where they burn corpses in Kathmandu, Nepal. To the Western tourist, it is a place of horror and fascination, as death is so hidden and sanitised where we come from. In the East, it is in your face, and as a result, few people fear death like we do in the West. Down beside the burning ghats there are babas (supposed holy men) who have destroyed the nerves in there penises, so that they can be celibate for the goddess. They make money by showing tourists that they can lift huge rocks with theior penises. They are insanely proud of this feat. As for the celibacy, one of them still tried to stick his hand into my girlfriend to give her a good grope while I was watching the performance, so I'm not sure the violent operation which he had previously performed on himself with a big stick had done him many favours. If you have read this far, and are interested, I share the stories of my art at .sunshine.creations

I left art school in 1991. Ever since then, I have been exploring, both internally and externally: making art and writing that reflects this process. In 2006, I gave up being a householder and became a nomad instead, spending the best part of ten years, travelling and living in Asia, mainly in Thailand and India, studying yoga, meditation, tantra and massage. I returned to a locked down Scotland in October 2020. I am currently working on an autobiography, as well as drawing and painting
