I drew this in 2003 as Rumsfeld and Bush’s “nimble, compact” army was readying its assault on Iraq and before it was shown that nimble and compact, while good at conquering, was not good at pacifying or stabilizing. It's never been published. The toy cannon is a useful metaphor. You can easily picture political hawks proudly parading with this cannon on July 4th, a portable metaphor for their small, erect masculinity. My original joke was plain but mostly unnoticed. Draw a line between the mouth of the cannon and the play-general’s backside.
