ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I believe these series of drawings were simply without motivation of an end result. Often characters 'arrive' out of my subconscious; as was in this case. Perhaps hidden emotions; people from another era. I find drawing very accessible, a great sense of freedom.

I am a songwriter, vocal coach, soundscape composer and script editor. I've worked as a vocal coach for actors and a dramaturge for many theatre productions and as a script assessor for the Australian National Playwrights Association as well as for Playworks and ABC Radio, Drama and TV. I was the vocal coach for Starstruck, the Australian movie directed by Gillian Armstrong, and for the Sydney Theatre Company production of Kafka Dances, the play written by Timothy Daly and starring Cate Blanchett. I received a contract with TCN9 when she was placed second in Australian Bandstands 1964 Starflight International. Followed up with a recording contract with Philips Records. Later she received an award for the Most Consistent Performer on Australian Bandstand during the 1960s. I worked with The Easybeats; George Chakiris (West Side Story); The Hollies; Johnny O’Keefe; Lesley Gore (‘It’s My Party’); Sammy Davis Junior; Shirley Bassey in Australia and in the UK with Cliff Richard, Frankie Miller, Cilla Black, Petula Clarke and Cleo Laine. During earlier periods I worked in roles that I loved, e.g. for a one-man advertising agency; a publishing house, at The Sculpture Centre in the Rocks, assisting in openings and general house keeping of artist's work; I loved working for Tony King in the Department of Art Education at Sydney University and as an actor in Theatre in Education, Sydney University. 'Janice was a leading figure in Australian pop music from 1964 onwards'.
