Ákwaeke (The Mantle of Femininity) Print

This work, Ákwaeke tells a story of a woman who used her femininity to acquire wealth and save a multitude in an era when that was punishable by death. The halo concept depicts the divinity of femininity. Her smile encapsulates her reaction to the challenges/triggers of womanhood in years past, which includes – but not limited to – subjugation, marginalisation and confinement to home duties alone. Ákwaeke (The Mantle of Femininity) is inspired by the artist's wild imagination and desire for an infusion of storytelling and visual art through creativity.
